Water NSW
Holistic approach halves project delivery time

Condition Assessment | Upgrade planning | Asset Management

Water NSW were defining the forward planning needs for Warragamba pipeline – the main pipeline feeding Sydney’s potable water supply. The works were very high priority.

Atlas undertook condition assessment for civil and mechanical remediation of the pipeline; comprising batter and cutting improvements, sill underpinning, sill and rocker remediation, scour remediation and coating works. Traditionally, re-coating works had only been able to proceed in winter months due to coating quality concerns, dramatically extending project timescales and cost.

The team challenged the convention, working with WNSW, they selected an alternative coating system and developed a methodology to control local climate conditions, meaning work could proceed throughout the year.

“Atlas has proven to be aware of the needs associated with construction, operations and maintenance – whilst maintaining a focus on the commercial objective and outcomes.”

This increased program throughput, reducing mobilisation and demobilisation costs, and reducing WNSW’s exposure to cost escalation risk.
